Nakhla Double Apple
[Rating:4/5]
Cut & Composition:
As is typical to the Nakhla brand, you will find lots of stems in the shisha. Besides that, it is a medium cut and it drier than other brands like Al Fakher. You can get wetter Nakhla by purchasing it in the 250 gram jar or the 1kg can (but since this is such a loveable flavour, you might actually want to get the 1kg can!)
Price and Quantities Available:
- 50g box – $2.49
- 250g box – $9.95
- 250g jar – $11.95
- 1kg can – $39.95

The Set-Up
This review was written after smoking multiple bowls of Nakhla Double Apple in many different styles and settings. Most recently, it was smoked in a Khalil Mammon hookah with a small Tangiers Phunnel bowl.
The Experience
Smoking Nakhla Double Apple brings back memories of the early days of smoking hookah when it was the only hookah tobacco that was easily accessible. It is a traditional tobacco and, with 2 or 3 coals, will start to produce amazing smoke within the first 2 pulls. With proper coal management, you can achieve very thick clouds and great, anise filled flavour.
The Flavour
Nakhla Double Apple is the originator of all Double Apple flavours and is filled with anise, but not as much as other brands of double apple. Being an unwashed tobacco, you can slightly taste the tobacco which adds to the complexity of the shisha. Unlike a real apple that is cool and refreshing, Double Apple is more dark and has a nice warming feeling when you smoke it. If you would like to add a bit of refreshment to your bowl, add about 10% mint to the mix and you will be set to smoke this flavour on any hot day.
The Insight
Nakhla Double Apple is definitely a great daily smoker for those who enjoy double apple or black liquorice. It really is a classic shisha and is enjoyed by many people everyday. It is neither too sweet nor bitter and provides amazing clouds. It can be packed many different ways and still achieve amazing smoke. I always keep Nakhla Double Apple on hand and is a great smoke everytime.
Who Should Try This Flavour
If you do not like black liquorice, then you should definitely stay away from this flavour because it has tons of a spice called anise which almost mimics the taste of black liquorice. If you have never tried any double apple flavours before, Nakhla Double Apple should definitely be your first double apple experience. For smoking on a hot summer day, this flavour will not be a cooling as other flavours, but mint can be added to cool this down just a notch.

The Insight
Nakhla Two Apples is more wet than most Nakhla products, but there are tons of stems. You’ll want to try and pick out the larger ones.
Two Apples is more mild than most similar flavors from other brands—namely Al Fakher, which produces a product by the same name. The anise flavor melds wonderfully with the rich natural tobacco tastes underneath. The flavor, to me, also tastes more floral than other brands.
Also worth noting is that Nakhla Two Apples is slightly more temperamental than other Nakhla flavors, so if it’s your first time, you’ll want to pay a little extra attention to your heat management while you become accustomed to it.
For me, without a doubt, Nakhla Two Apples stands a monolith in the shisha tobacco world. It’s flavors are complex and rich, but mild enough for daily smoking. I absolutely love it. It deserves every one of the four and a half stars I’ve given it.
