Cut  & Composition

This batch of Chocolate Chill is a medium-fine cut and fairly wet. There are a few small stems mixed about the tobacco, which can sometimes be quite long and make packing a little awkward, but not unacceptably so.

Price & Quantities Available

  • 100g – $10.95
  • 250g – $20.95
  • 1kg – $69.95

The Set-Up

This review of Chocolate Chill was performed using a mini mod/mya hookah and a HJ Alien Mini phunnel bowl, sealed with two layers of standard tin-foil, punctured with three concentric circles around the outside of the bowl.

The Experience

The flavor began almost immediately, even before smoke was clearly being produced. It began smoking fairly quickly compared to other Social Smoke flavors and required almost no attention to keep the smoking experience moving. The clouds were thick, but probably aren’t going to turn heads.

The Flavor

Chocolate Chill from Social Smoke is a basic chocolate-mint flavor, like the ones produced by Fusion, Tangiers, Nakhla and a handful of other brands. The first thing you’re likely to notice is the intensity of the mint flavor. It is extremely strong. The mint sensation alone is comparable to smoking Al Fakher or Nakhla mint flavor by itself. But, Chocolate Chill also carries a chocolaty taste as well, though compared to the mint it is subtle. The chocolate flavor present isn’t a milk chocolate taste, but more of a cocoa powder or hot-chocolate mix. It is generally dark in flavor, but with a hint of sweetness as well.

The Insight

In my opinion Chocolate Chill is somewhat inaptly named. The Chocolate flavor is so subtle and the mint sensation so intense that “Frigid Chocolate” may have been a better title. The mint sensation made it hard for me to forget that I was smoking and simply enjoy the experience. Instead, with each drag I was aggressively reminded that I was smoking something that really seemed to want to freshen my breath. That said, the flavor is not bad by any means and it’s far from unsmokeable. But, for my own taste, Chocolate Chill is likely a flavor that I would only smoke with a very specific craving and in very specific situations—like outside after a barbecue on a very hot day.

Who Should Try This Flavor

I expect Chocolate Chill will be a big hit among people who like tobacco that is less-than-sweet, but also really enjoy a heavy mint sensation. People who are looking for a robust chocolate flavor aren’t going to find it here and being that Chocolate Chill isn’t the most accessible flavor, those with an affinity for fruity sweets in their smoke will almost definitely want something different.
