Cut & Composition

JM’s Red Toro is a fine cut, medium wet tobacco, though it is more oily than slimy. When mixed well, the juices will leave your fingers good and sticky. There are a few small stems mixed amongst the tobacco, though nothing that will get in the way of packing your bowl.

The Experience

JM’s Red Toro began smoking almost immediately from an HJ Alien Mini Phunnel Bowl. The smoke and flavor were the fullest after about three minutes. The taste betrays the aroma a bit here, as the scent is sweeter than the taste. The flavor responded adversely to too much heat, changing the flavor and exaggerating floral sensations. Reducing the heat, however, returned the bowl to its intended flavor. The tobacco produced no head-buzz whatsoever during the session which lasted just about an hour and a half before the flavor and smoke dropped off sharply.

The Flavor

Red Toro is JM’s attempt at an energy drink flavor—ala Red ‘Bull’. And it is indeed very similar, and quite delicious. There is a strong floral undertone, most likely rose. But atop that is something semi-sweet and fruity—possibly apricot, peach or raspberry. Or, perhaps a blend of all of them. Overall, the flavors do jive well together, provided the heat is managed properly.

The Insight

Red Toro joins many other brands attempting to recreate energy-drink flavors, though this one is somewhat unique. While other sweet fruit-like, floral flavors exist, this one puts a slightly heavier emphasis on the floral sensation and is a bit less sweet. In a way, Red Toro tastes more ‘realistic’ than others.

Who Should Try This Flavor

If you’ve been a fan of other energy drink flavors, such as Social Smoke’s Mobster, Al Fakher’s Energy Drink, or Tonic’s Hit Man, you’ll most likely enjoy this one as well. If you haven’t tried any of those, be prepared for something unique, as floral-fruit blends are somewhat uncommon. Generally, floral fans will likely enjoy this. Fruit fans, may want some experience with floral flavors before diving into this one.
